Computer Labs & Free High-Speed WiFi
Note: To comply with customer visit limits of one hour per person per day, computer use will be limited to one 60-minute session per day.
The library has two computer labs and selected Internet accessible/word processing computers available during regular library hours. Use the 14 digit barcode on your DeSoto Library card to use the computers. If you forget your card you may use a picture ID to have the number looked up. Customers who do not have library cards can get a free computer guest pass. Customers must be at least 10 years old to receive a computer pass. Fines or fees over $5.00 will block access to the computers. All computers will shut down 15 minutes before the library closes.
The computer lab is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and Easter.

Free Wireless Internet Access
The DeSoto Public Library is proud to announce that the Library is a Wi-Fi “hotspot,” providing free high-speed Internet. Access extends throughout the building. The DeSoto Town Center also offers this free service. You are invited to use this free service by bringing your own laptop computer or other Wi-Fi enabled devices to the Library. Please note that as this is a free service, the Library cannot guarantee the compatibility of your wireless equipment. If you would like to know more about this service, please stop by the Information Desk or call 972.230.9661.
The Library’s public wireless network is not secure. Data transmitted to or from all wireless devices connected to this network is sent “in the clear” and could be intercepted by third parties using commonly available software. Do not use this network to transfer sensitive personal data such as usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, social security numbers, etc. The DeSoto Public Library strongly recommends that all devices connected to the public wireless network be configured with active, up-to-date antivirus and personal firewall software. Use of this wireless connection is entirely at the risk of the user and the city disclaims all liability for loss of confidential information or damages resulting from that loss.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I log on to a computer?
Sit down at any available PC and click the mouse. Click on the highlighted "AVAILABLE", type in your 14-digit library card number or 5-digit computer pass number, and click OK. Then click "Use this computer".
I type in my card number but it doesn't work?
Make sure you've entered all 14 digits on the card. If there is a block on your card, take it to the check out desk and have them check to make sure your card is up to date and has no fines over $5.00. Computer pass numbers may only be entered one time per pass.
What if I forgot my card or don't have a library card?
If you are a resident of the City of DeSoto, you may apply for a free library card at the check out desk during normal business hours. You will need to provide valid identification and proof of residency. If you forgot your library card, you may use a picture ID to have the number looked up. If you don't have a library card you can get a free computer pass at the check out desk or after hours at the lab desk.
How much time do I have to use the computers?
Computer sessions are 60 minutes. The computer will give you a warning before you are logged out. If there are no other customers waiting, you may be offered a 15 minute extension. You may continue to use the same PC as long as there are no reservations on it and there is no limit to the number of sessions per day. The PCs will automatically shut-down 15 minutes before closing each day.
