Research Databases
Through the Texas State Library, DeSoto Library customers have free, unlimited, full text access to online encyclopedias, professional and academic journals, newspapers, magazines, and more through over 50 reputable databases. These databases provide accurate, authoritative, and commercial-free resources.

America's News/Newsbank
Allows you to search current and archived local, state, and national articles on issues, events, business, education, government, and more from sources such as the Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and USA Today. Also includes Access Business News, Hot Topics, and Current Events. To use the database, type in the 14 digit number on the back of your DeSoto Library card.

College Source 
Allows you to access to a collection of more than 27,000 college catalogs in full cover-to-cover original page format, including 2-year, 4-year, graduate, professional, and international schools.  To use the database, use the following information---Username: desoto, Password: the first 5 digits of your valid DeSoto Public Library card.

Global Road Warrior 
Allows you to access a database of world information, including country facts, climate, society and culture, business culture, and much more! To use the database, type in the 14 digit number on the back of your DeSoto Library card.

Journey Back In Time 
The Journey Back In Time Database covers scanned images, newspapers, & documents recording American history. To use the database, type in the 14 digit number on the back of your DeSoto Library card.

Learning Express Library (Learn-A-Test)
Allows you to access a database of practice tests based on the official exams.  Some of the practice exams include: GED, ASVAB, SAT, ACT, PSAT, TAKS for some grades, police officer entrance exams, firefighter entrance exams, and real estate license exams.  To set up an account from home or work, click on "New User," and use the 14 digit number on the back of your DeSoto Library card as the username. Choose a password. Once the account is set up, you can log in as a "Returning User."

Mango Foreign Language Learning
Mango is an online language-learning database that can help you learn languages like Spanish, French, Japanese, German, Mandarin Chinese, Greek, Italian, Russian, and more. To use the database, type in the 14 digit number on the back of your DeSoto Public Library card.
 
Medline Plus Database
A service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, this database includes information on health topics such as: Drugs and Supplements, Medical Encyclopedias, Medical Dictionaries, Current Headline Information, and Links to Other Resources.   

Reference USA 
Allows you to access a database of 12 million U.S. businesses and 115 million U.S. residents. Customers can use the database for conducting job searches, finding sales leads, tracking down addresses and phone numbers, and locating out-of-town companies. To use the database, type in the 14 digit number on the back of your DeSoto Library card.

Schomburg Studies on the Black Experience 
Allows you to access a database detailing the African experience throughout the Americas. The database includes essays, research topics, and timelines, and the ability to search for pictures and film clips.
