Karen Kirby is the manager of the Information Technology Department for the City of DeSoto. She started working at the city in 1999 in the IT Department, serving in a communications role during the Y2K era, and developing the city's first-ever webpage. She became the department manager in 2001. The IT Department consists of three full-time positions and one part-time position, which support the rest of the city departments in computers, network, user support, telephone system, cell phones, web and much more. Karen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from SMU, is a graduate of Leadership Southwest, and holds a Certified Public Manager (CPM) certification from The School of Urban and Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Arlington and a Certified Government Chief Information Officer certification from the School of Government at the University of North Carolina.
