Teen Empowerment Summit
Our mission is to foster a community where youth and teens are valued, inspired, and empowered to become their best as contributing members of society by providing them with opportunities to learn and practice leadership, citizenship, and life skills.

Every year the City of DeSoto, the DeSoto Public Library, and Mayor Carl Sherman invite local employers to participate in the Mayor’s Teen Career/Job Fair at the DeSoto Public Library Teen Empowerment Summit. This was the 3rd annual Teen Summit held at the DeSoto Civic Center from Wednesday, March 12, 2014 through Friday, March 14, 2014. The library partnered with Mayor Carl Sherman to offer teens who were 16 years or older and passed an assessment, the opportunity to obtain the Mayor’s Teen Excellence Job Readiness Certification. Teens are equipped for the Career Fair and future opportunities by attending professional workshop sessions on a variety of topics, including resume writing, interview skills, premier customer service, work ethics, effective communication, and social networking and branding.

Local employers who attended the Mayor's Teen Career Fair were asked to provide at least one to two jobs or three-week paid or non-paid internships for youths in our community and interview teens for these positions. This is a great opportunity for local businesses to give back to their community and to invest in our youth. A job helps teens prepare for the real world, teaches them responsibility, and helps them develop a work ethic.

There is a $10 non-refundable registration fee.
