Tips for Successful Assignments:
- Check with your Children's Librarian for resources available that can help you and your students (call 972.230.9666)
- Keep topics broad
- Accept the use of encyclopedias, library databases, and other reference materials for assignments
- Ask students to draw their own illustrations or use photocopies of published materials
- Accept alternate titles and authors when assigned books are not available
- Consider the quality of the material, rather than the number of pages
Let Us Help You Plan a Library
Visit with Your Class/Group!
The library is a fun and educational place to visit, and we welcome child care groups, preschools, clubs, and classrooms to bring children to the library.
What we can offer you:
- Storytime
- Book Talks
- Library Orientation and Tour
- Research Assistance for Specific Topics
- Summer Reading Programs
How to schedule your visit:
- Call the library to make arrangements: call 972.230.9666
- Let the librarian know if you want a special topic or service
- If you want your students to check out materials during your visit, see the Bring Library Cards section below
- Three weeks advance notice is required.
Bring Library Cards: (If your group plans to check out materials)
- Students must have their library card on the day of your visit to borrow materials
- Children who do not have library cards may have a parent or legal guardian complete a library card application.
- Please have parents return completed applications to the library prior to your scheduled visit. A parent or legal guardian must be present to apply for a library card. Click here for more information on obtaining a library card.
- Parents of children who already have a library card should call the library to make sure that there are no fines, overdue, or lost items on their child's account that would prevent them from checking out materials.
