Community Champion Recognition Award

purpose
The purpose of the DeSoto Community Champion Award is to foster a service ethic among residents by recognizing those who have made significant contributions above and beyond to improve their local community or had a significant positive impact on the community. 

Residents are encouraged to nominate deserving individuals or groups for consideration.  Selection criteria is broad, as contribution and impact can be measured or determined in many different ways.  Things such as community leadership, community organization involvement, heroic action, humanitarian efforts, service, volunteerism, and even things like business success, personal or professional achievement, or recognition brought to the DeSoto community as a result of an individual's efforts.

This award is presented during the DeSoto City Council meetings on a quarterly basis. 

Eligibility
The DeSoto Community Champion Award is designed to quarterly recognize:

  • a group
  • an individual(adult or youth)
  • House of Worship Centers
  • Inter-faith Worship Spaces
  • Business
  • Organization 

All should demonstrate exemplary service to the community.  The City of DeSoto is fortunate to have a longstanding tradition of hardworking volunteers and this award aims to recognize those who have given unselfishly of themselves in service to others.

Award
The recipient(s) will be announced and honored during a DeSoto City Council meeting and will also receive a DeSoto Community Champion Challenge coin from the Mayor and have their name mentioned on our city website, social media outlets, City Manager's Office (CMO) report and DeSoto newsletter.

Nominations
Upon submission, the Mayor and her staff will review and finalize the nomination for consideration.  

Note: DeSoto elected officials currently in office and board/commission members are not eligible to receive this award.

Self-nomination is permitted.

To complete the application, you will need the following information:

1. Description of the nature of the nominee's community service
2. Full name and contact information for both you and the nominee.
3. Nominee's curriculum vitae (Supporting documentation - ie: video or pictures, proof of contribution or accomplishment, etc.)
4. Most importantly, MUST BE A DESOTO RESIDENT, BUSINESS OR ORGANIZATION.

Nominees will be contacted by the City Secretary's office once selection is made.

The nominator is responsible for submitting a complete application with all pertinent details. It is important that you provide as much information as possible about the the nominee, and explain their contribution and describe how they impacted the overall community of DeSoto. Please feel free to send examples of the nominees work (e.g. videos, photographs, etc..). Note that all application material will remain property of the City of DeSoto and will not be returned. 

Selection
The final selection of the awardee will be made by the Mayor.
