The DeSoto Public Utilities Department has partnered with Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center to offer a series of water efficiency and landscape maintenance classes focused on techniques to conserve water and reduce monthly water bills. These classes are free of charge to DeSoto residents, but will require registration. Classes are limited to 75 attendees. You will want to sign up early to guarantee your seat. Here’s the schedule for the coming year:
April 25 – Rainwater Harvesting 6:30 to 8:30pm
Come learn the basics and benefits of rainwater harvesting and the effects storm water has on the environment. Participants will learn how to collect and utilize rainwater at home and have the opportunity to construct their very own 55 gallon rain barrel. This class is hands on "DIY" and each participant will take home a barrel. There may be a small fee to cover the cost of the barrel.
Registration for this class will be handled by the City of DeSoto. Please email email@example.com. Deadline to register is Friday, April 21, 2017. We will have a maximum of 25 barrels available however, you may bring someone with you to help you with the project.
August 22 – Composting 6:30 to 8:30pm
Is your trash can full at the end of the week? Did you know that you can reduce the waste carried to landfills by composting more and throwing away less? This program teaches the composting process, the different types and methods of composting, as well as how to compost and its importance.
