DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Domestic or Family Violence occurs when one partner in a relationship attempts to dominate the other through the systematic use of force, threats, and intimidation; when one family member or household member causes or attempts to cause mental and emotional, or physical injury to another family member. The abuse can be physical, verbal, emotional, or sexual and may include—pushing, scratching, slapping, hitting, punching, choking as some examples of various personal abuse. We are providing our residents with this listing of resources that they can contact for additional information and/or help.

 CRIME VICTIM'S COMPENSATION: 

Texas Attorney General’s Office 800.983.9933

This financial assistance program is administered by the Office of the Texas Attorney General and helps eligible victims of crime with certain expenses related to the crime. It is the “the payer of last resort” after primary sources of payment such as health insurance; Medicaid, Medicare, etc. have been exhausted or no longer exist. ·

  • You must have been a victim of a violent crime in Texas or be a Texas Resident who becomes a victim in an area that does not have a compensation program.
  • You must be willing to follow through in the prosecution of the case

RIGHTS OF CRIME VICTIMS:

 As defined in Title 1; Chapter. 56, Texas Code of Criminal procedure, a victim of a violent crime is someone who:

  • Suffered bodily injury or death as a result of criminally injurious conduct
  • Been a victim of a crime involving sexual assault, kidnapping, or aggravated robbery
  • Is the close relative –spouse, parent, sibling, adult child (ren) and/ or guardian of a victim
