Looking for a historic newspaper page from 1789-1963? The Library of Congress provides access to many newspaper titles through the Chronicling America website. Selected issues are available from the Austin Weekly Statesman, the Chicago Eagle, Dallas Daily Herald, the Fort Worth Gazette, and more.

The Texas Digital Newspaper Program (TDNP) also contains many historic Texas newspapers as part of the Portal to Texas History. Selected issues are available from the Lancaster Herald, El Bejareño, and the Dallas Express, and more.

Other historic newspapers include:

  • Freedom’s Journal (1827 - 1829)
    This was the first African-American owned and operated newspaper published in the United States. It was published weekly in New York City.
